About Marie

Hi!  Thanks for stopping by and sharing a few minutes.  I’m Marie and I'm the (main) voice behind Substance of Living.

A brief history about myself.  I left the corporate world in 2004 shortly after I married the dream man of my life.  Writing, cooking, baking, crafts, and entertaining have been my passions for as long as I can remember.  My barbies were always hosting parties and my dolls entertained with tea.

Many of my fondest childhood memories come from spending time in the kitchen with my Mom and Sisters.  We baked homemade bread, sourdough cinnamon rolls, dyed Easter eggs, decorated Christmas cookies, made play dough and snow ice cream.  My Dad was my first taste tester and now my sexy husband gets to rate my tasty concoctions.

When you visit our home you will find: An ever expanding collection of cook books, recipes, and recipe boxes; that my office carries throughout the house; projects in various forms of completion; and fresh coffee.  A dessert or bite will be offered and there is always room for one more person at the table.

Inspiration comes from everywhere; books, magazines, conversations with family or friends, music, games, life.  That's what we try to convey here and hope that we are able to inspire and encourage you.

I don't have formal training in the arts, culinary, decorating, or landscaping areas.  So, after admitting all that, you can be sure that anything I'm able to accomplish and share will be easy.  If I can do it, you can too!

I'd love to hear from you whether you have a question, comment, suggestion, or just want to say "Hi."  You can reach me through email at substanceofliving[at]gmail[dot]com or leave a comment on this page or any post.  I read all my emails and comments and will personally respond.  If you have a website or blog I will repay the favor of a comment.

Cheers!
