Finding Wines for the Holiday Season

Image
Likelii Summer is over.  The children are back in school.  The holidays are quickly approaching and that means gifts. Are you a wine drinker and stuck in a rut?  Don't drink wine and find yourself in a situation that you have to purchase wine?  What do you do? I've been holding out on you.  I found out about Likelii earlier this year.  In all fairness, I did have to try it out to see if it would give viable choices for different situations.  I'm now sharing with you because it does work. If you're familiar with Netflix or Pandora and how these two sites offer suggestions then I think you will appreciate Likelii 's wine recommendations.  You enter a particular wine you enjoy and then the site recommends other wines you might like. Apothic Red Last year I found a new wine at Costco that was smooth, relatively inexpensive, and readily available.  That wine was Apothic Red .  I typed in "Apothic Red" as my choice and the s...

Books to Read During the Month of September 2013

Image
This month's selection is a bit eclectic.  We have some mysteries and a love story of sorts.  We also have a book that at first I wasn't too sure if I'd like since it has to do with government corruption.  Ahh, but I did keep an open mind for the first couple pages and found myself unable to put the book down. Whiskey Sour by Jack Kilborn and J.A. Konrath Are you a Whiskey Sour drinker?  Did you try "Jack" Daniel's drink of choice for this book? Just the Way You Are by Barbara Freethy Suggestions on where to find books other than a book store include, wholesale clubs, thrift stores , library, amazon , garage sales , family, friends, and flea markets. Murder on the Mind (A Jeff Resnick Mystery) by L. L. Bartlett Breach of Trust by DiAnn Mills If you're new to our book club and would like to get caught up, check out June , July , and August . What have you been or are currently reading?  What did you think about last month...

Barbecue Salmon Salad

Image
Barbecue Salmon Salad Sandwich Besides anything Italian as far as food goes with DH, I believe tuna salad is a close second. Almost a month ago, I slipped in a six-pack of canned Pink Salmon along with the canned tuna into our cart at Costco.  Upon arriving home DH noticed the salmon and wondered (aloud) if I'd made a mistake thinking I'd picked up another type of tuna. I (sheepishly) told him that I had not but thought it would be fun to try.  Again, he wondered (aloud) what we were going to do with canned salmon and wasn't it full of bones that need to be picked out?  This salmon was labeled Alaskan Wild Caught, Skinless and Boneless.  I crossed my fingers and gathered my courage (several weeks later) and tackled the canned salmon.   To my surprise, there really weren't any fillers, like the salmon burgers we've tried, and the meat was flaky not fatty. Canned Salmon with Chopped Onions When I was little, I remember one of my Aunts used to ...

Books to Read During the Month of June 2013

Image
I am an avid reader. I wasn't always a reader.  I'll bet that there are a lot of people out there like me, though. Since graduating from high school, I went on to college and became hooked on books.  I literally have at two or three books going at all times.  Now, with options like the original hand-held hard or paperback books there are audio - cassette, CD, MP3, iTunes; electronic books provided by Kindle , Nook, e-Pub, and so many other juicy options. Where do I get my books?  Local bookstore, library, Amazon , friends, and anywhere else a book might appear.  I've also been known to get books at wholesale stores, garage sales and charity stores. These are the books I read last month.  It's not that I think you're interested in what I've been or am currently reading, but you might be curious about new options, authors, or genres.  I read everything.  I've been known to actually read a recipe book and believe it or not, my car manual. ...

Kirkland Creamsicle

This is an ideal out-the-door breakfast that is full of Protein, Vitamins B12, C, D , Calcium, and Riboflavin (not to mention all the other nutrients like iron, etc). Breakfast is probably the most skipped meal.  How many times have you had good intentions to start eating breakfast every morning to find yourself running late and saying that you'll grab something on the way?  By the time you're able to "grab something" they are all out of breakfast items so you end up settling for a donut or a bag of chips. Luckily for you, this delicious drink takes less time to make than the first cup of coffee.  No special equipment or brewing time required. Shake, Open and Pour. Ingredients: 50% Orange Juice + 50% Organic Soymilk = 100% Enjoyment This drink is also nice for a snack in between meals or a light dessert. The Kirkland Signature Organic Soymilk (Costco's in-house brand) is a U.S.A. product that comes in a case of 12 quart-sized co...
